Mouflon Chess Challenge April 2020: Michaelides vs Papatryfonos

Today in the Mouflon Chess Challenge Konstantinos Michaelides and Konstantinos Papatryfonos will battle over a six game match for a place in the Finals at 8 PM!

The first semi-final match between Konstantinos Michaelides and Konstantinos Papatryfonos will be broadcasted live on our YouTube Channel with our great commentary team. We will be joined by Cyprus No. 2 Alexandros Isaakidis. The commentary will be in English.


Konstantinos Michaelides

CM Konstantinos Michaelides is just 17 years old and is already a three-time Cyprus Chess Champion. He won the three titles in a row from 2016 until 2018. In 2016 he became the youngest player in Cyprus history to win the Cyprus Chess Championship breaking GM Andreas Kelires’ record. He is also currently no.1 in Cyprus.

Konstantinos Papatryfonos

Konstantinos Papatryfonos is a four-time Chess Olympiad participant for the Cyprus National Team including a first board in 2004 Chess Olympiad in Calvia. Konstantinos has not played a standard game since 2014! In 2018, he came back for a rapid tournament and help his club to 2nd place in the Cyprus Club Chess Championship. His rating is 2133 which makes him number 14 in the rating list (inactive included).


Konstantinos Michaelides and Konstantinos Papatryfonos have played against each other only one official FIDE Rated Rapid Game.  Konstantinos Michaelides was white and won the game. Konstantinos Michaelides is slight favourite to win this match.
