Mouflon Chess Challenge April 2020: Isaakidis vs Damianou

Today in the Mouflon Chess Challenge Alexandros Isaakidis and Ioannis Damianou will battle over a six game match for a place in the Finals at 8 PM!

The second semi-final match between Alexandros Isaakidis and Ioannis Damianou will be broadcasted live on our YouTube Channel with our great commentary team.


Alexandros Isaakidis

Alexandros Isaakidis is currently ranked number 2 in Cyprus with 2211 FIDE Standard Rating (The ratings were updated 1 April 2020). Alexandros Isaakidis is participating in his first Cyprus Closed Chess Championship with the ultimate aim of winning the title. Last year in 2019 on top board for the Paphos Chess Club he led them to their maiden Cyprus Club Chess Championship title. 

Ioannis Damianou

CM Ioannis Damianou is currently the reigning Cyprus Chess Champion. Currently ranked number 4 in Cyprus with 2202 FIDE Standard Rating (The ratings were updated 1 April 2020). He has participated in one chess olympiad in 2018 in Batumi in which he obtained his CM title. He won the Cyprus Chess Championship last year with 8.5/9 equalling the record set by GM Andreas Kelires. This year he won the Cyprus Open also by 8.5/9. In simple terms, he is one of the big favourites to win.


Konstantinos Michaelides and Konstantinos Papatryfonos have played against each other in five official FIDE Rated games.  The score is at an even 2.5-2.5. Four of the games have been Rapid: 2 wins for each player, Alexandros has been White only once which he won. The only Standard game was played in this year’s second round of the Cyprus Closed Chess Championship in which Ioannis was White and ended in draw.
